about

I love unusual bass sounds, and the twelve string bass fits that category. It has a rich and complex tone that's challenging to find a place for. It is also hard to play with much dexterity, as there are three strings for each note which makes it a handful.

I found a simple riff and built the entire piece around it. At about the 1:00 minute mark the violin melody enters, and so does the twelve string bass.

This piece was under construction when I viewed an episode of Finding Your Roots on PBS. Norman Lear was one of the subjects. It was a very emotional moment when he found out the names of relatives that had managed to escape the pogroms and made it to the USA to start a new life, making his life possible.

This piece began taking on a more of a Jewish tone as a result of watching this, since I too had relatives that manged to escape similar horrors and made it to the USA, and I felt them for the first time.

The sounds of extreme joy and pain are apparent in Jewish music, and I think this piece has some of that feel, but in a different context.

about

Larry Kornfeld St. Louis, Missouri

When I first got into music, there was no way I could conceive of what I'm doing here, creating fully realized works of musical art with only a computer and my imagination.

For me, composing music is an incredibly fulfilling activity. I plan to create a catalog of challenging and interesting music for those whose tastes run in the direction of prog rock and fusion, Zappa, Yes, Steely Dan, etc.
